Paul Suckling
Partner, Head of Construction, Infrastructure and Engineering
PRACTICE AREA:
Construction and InfrastructurePaul is a dual qualified professional. He initially qualified as a quantity surveyor and worked on a number of iconic Projects in the UK. He then re-trained as a solicitor and has focused on Construction disputes and has been practising in the Middle East for over 20 years.
Experience
Paul’s experience includes both contentious and non-contentious construction work in the UAE. He regularly advises on both front-end contract drafting and back end construction disputes, with extensive experience in the FIDIC suite of contracts. He is well known for his construction projects with a focus on arbitration that covers extensive, high-profile cases within the UAE and internationally. As a dual qualified quantity surveyor and solicitor, Paul is able to give commercial, pragmatic, and reasoned advice in relation to Construction Projects in the form of a Project Counsel role, which his peers would find difficult in providing due to his experience. Some of Paul’s recent experience covers disputes relating to one of the Expo 2020 Pavilion Projects, a landmark AED 3 billion hotel and residential structure in Dubai, an AED 300 million arbitration in relation to a major infrastructure project in Abu Dhabi and an AED 200 million pumping station.
